The one I linked is the standard in the quilting community. One thing I learned recently is that not all “tri-recs” rulers are created equally. If you don’t have a Tri-Recs ruler you can purchase one from Amazon. The block in the graphics I call Star Daze but I must be the only person who knows it by that name because I couldn’t find any quilt block online with that name that looks like the block I did. There’s still time to join in on the block of the month if you would like to. You are more than welcome to join just be sure to answer the questions so I know you are a real person. I did this video for the block of the month I do for my Facebook Community. If you just need a few do like I do in the video. If you are needing to cut a bunch you can fold the fabric in half and cut the left and right at the same time. That’s because I wasn’t using the whole strip of fabric. In the video, I swap the ruler back and forth for the legs. Purchasing items from the links cost you nothing more and adds a few pennies to the fabric budget. Those little notches are the key to making the triangle in a square unit a breeze to put together. There’s something in your brain when you look at the Tri Tool and the Recs Tool that says, “These do not go together.” They do go together and with the “odd” parts of the ruler it makes lining up the pieces a breeze. I have also found that it can be intimidating to use for some quilters. ![]() The tri-recs ruler combo is a very handy quilting tool to have.

Unlike it’s Symbian^3 predecessor, the N8, it doesn’t have built-in HDMI or USB OTG, but it does have an NFC chip that lets you pair it with other NFC-enabled devices (like the Nokia Play 360 speaker) by just tapping the two together. All colour options are available in the 16GB size, but the 64GB version is available in black only. There’s a single-core 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, and either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage (no microSD expansion). The N9 isn’t just a pretty face when it comes to hardware. Email, calendar, contacts and messaging are unified across the various services, but photo albums and phone calls are phone-specific only. That said, it doesn’t go quite as deep as webOS. The range of services it supports is impressive, including Twitter, Facebook, Skype, Google, Flickr and YouTube. MeeGo 1.2 is quite similar to webOS (and to a lesser extent, Android) in the way it integrates various online services at a system level. The lack of homescreen and dedicated home and back buttons simplifies thing to a certain extent, but it also means there’s no fast way to make a phone call or launch the camera or a particular app quickly – you simply have to keep swiping until you get to the apps launcher. Navigation through the simple yet good-looking interface is slightly different to what we’re used to, with three screens – an apps launcher, events view (system notifications and social network updates) and running apps – that you can move between by swiping across the display. You can also cut, copy and paste, close apps, and use the N9’s 3G connection to create a wireless hotspot. It’s a big improvement over Symbian^3 (although that isn’t exactly a high benchmark), and offers almost everything you’d expect in a modern smartphone OS, including an app store, push email, a HTML5 web browser, notifications and multi-tasking. This is protected by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass that’s been treated with an anti-glare polariser to enhance outdoor visibility.Īs if there weren’t enough smartphone platforms on the market, the N9 adds yet another a player to the mix in the form of MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan. The unibody design, rounded edges, and relatively narrow dimensions (61.2mm across – only a couple of millimetres wider than the iPhone 4/4S) make the N9 lovely to hold, and it’s just as nice to use thanks to the curved glass display that extends from edge to edge. The only visible port is the headphone jack on the top left corner. This sits next to a micro-USB sync/charge port that’s hidden behind a flap. The internal battery means there’s no fiddly back cover either instead the micro-SIM card fits into a slot at the top of the phone, protected by a sliding panel. The seamless unibody casing beats even the iPhone 4 in its simplicity, with only three buttons altogether for power and volume, and no visible screws. The charming colour options aren’t the only thing we like about the N9. It even comes with a rubber case in the box that matches the phone’s colour exactly. The colour is bled into the polycarbonate casing all the way through, which means that even if you scratch it, the colour underneath is the same. We got the cyan version in for review, and it’s such a gorgeous shade of blue that we’re now convinced we want all of our gadgets in this exact colour. At first glance, it looks like a giant fourth-gen iPod nano (minus the clickwheel), particularly in the brightly-coloured magenta and cyan versions (it’s also available in black). We’re won’t beat around the bush here: the N9 is the best-looking smartphone we’e ever seen. It’s the most significant device that Nokia has launched since the N95, but given that it’s running a mobile platform that’s yet to prove itself as a contender, is it enough to make a real impression? That time is now, and that product is the Nokia N9. In its bombshell announcement in February that it would ditch Symbian as its primary smartphone platform, Nokia mentioned – almost as an aside – that it would also be shipping “a MeeGo-related product” later this year. Our pathway calls for scaling up solar and wind rapidly this decade, reaching annual additions of 630 gigawatts (GW) of solar photovoltaics (PV) and 390 GW of wind by 2030, four-times the record levels set in 2020. Emissions reductions from the energy sector are not limited to CO 2: in our pathway, methane emissions from fossil fuel supply fall by 75% over the next ten years as a result of a global, concerted effort to deploy all available abatement measures and technologies.Įver-cheaper renewable energy technologies give electricity the edge in the race to zero. A major worldwide push to increase energy efficiency is an essential part of these efforts, resulting in the annual rate of energy intensity improvements averaging 4% to 2030 – about three-times the average rate achieved over the last two decades. In the net zero emissions pathway presented in this report, the world economy in 2030 is some 40% larger than today but uses 7% less energy. ![]() The path to net zero emissions is narrow: staying on it requires immediate and massive deployment of all available clean and efficient energy technologies. Reaching net zero emissions globally by 2050 is a critical and formidable goal Getting to net zero will involve countless decisions by people across the world, but our primary aim is to inform the decisions made by policy makers, who have the greatest scope to move the world closer to its climate goals. ![]() We also recognise that the route mapped out here is a path, not necessarily the path, and so we examine some key uncertainties, notably concerning the roles played by bioenergy, carbon capture and behavioural changes. The report provides a global view, but countries do not start in the same place or finish at the same time: advanced economies have to reach net zero before emerging markets and developing economies, and assist others in getting there. We highlight the priority actions that are needed today to ensure the opportunity of net zero by 2050 – narrow but still achievable – is not lost. It is designed to maximise technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness and social acceptance while ensuring continued economic growth and secure energy supplies. The pathway described in depth in this report achieves this objective with no offsets from outside the energy sector, and with low reliance on negative emissions technologies. In this Summary for Policy Makers, we outline the essential conditions for the global energy sector to reach net zero CO 2 emissions by 2050. Further delay in acting to reverse that trend will put net zero by 2050 out of reach. Global emissions fell in 2020 because of the Covid-19 crisis but are already rebounding strongly as economies recover. The continuation of that trend would be consistent with a temperature rise in 2100 of around 2.1 ☌. ![]() Moreover, even if successfully fulfilled, the pledges to date would still leave around 22 billion tonnes of CO 2 emissions worldwide in 2050. However, most pledges are not yet underpinned by near-term policies and measures. The number of countries that have pledged to achieve net zero emissions has grown rapidly over the last year and now covers around 70% of global emissions of CO 2. Commitments made to date fall far short of what is required by that pathway. The global pathway to net zero emissions by 2050 detailed in this report requires all governments to significantly strengthen and then successfully implement their energy and climate policies. This special IEA report sets out a pathway for achieving this goal, resulting in a clean and resilient energy system that would bring major benefits for human prosperity and well-being. A huge amount of work is needed to turn today’s impressive ambitions into reality, especially given the range of different situations among countries and their differing capacities to make the necessary changes. The growing political consensus on reaching net zero is cause for considerable optimism about the progress the world can make, but the changes required to reach net zero emissions globally by 2050 are poorly understood. This calls for nothing less than a complete transformation of how we produce, transport and consume energy. Reducing global carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions to net zero by 2050 is consistent with efforts to limit the long-term increase in average global temperatures to 1.5˚C. The energy sector is the source of around three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions today and holds the key to averting the worst effects of climate change, perhaps the greatest challenge humankind has faced. 11/13/2023 0 Comments Managing impulsivity habits of mind![]() We can also recognise that reader identity is shaped over time. There is always more story to be told, and we find our own challenge in recognising the power of all narratives and the importance of the work that authors do. In practice, this ‘jump' may sound like: ‘This is not the right book for me' or ‘I know all of that story already', or it may even be ‘I'm just not a reader'. Rather than take the standard classroom approach to managing impulsivity as a behaviour concern, we see the potential in this Habit of Mind for resisting the urge to jump to simplistic conclusions. As teachers, we can normalise progress by discussing our own experiences of persistence and by being transparent about the ways we have learned and grown. After all, no writer was born forming perfect letters and plots. Our classrooms are spaces of encouragement and revision as we improve our reading, writing, and speaking. Finding the right tools to do that work, through reading and using words and pictures, is a powerful echo to the idea of persisting. The following discussion addresses each of the 16 habits and ways that we can use these with students as they learn about literacy and language.Ī key ingredient in the literacy classroom is a commitment to telling one's story. ![]() One of us has already written about the Habits of Mind in a variety of ways, including in language learning (Mason, 2019), but here we turn our attention as a united effort to the field of literacy. By applying them in the areas of English and literacy, we invite our students to become fully engaged in their learning in a way they may have never imagined. The Habits of Mind, developed by Arthur L Costa and Bena Kallick, focus on 16 habits or dispositions that help with life's challenges and education (Costa & Kallick, 2008 Costa & Kallick, 2009). Building a classroom where reading, writing and speaking are valued, and where stories are shared, is hardly simple work. 11/13/2023 0 Comments Syncios for mac![]() When I opened WhatsApp it wasn’t complete and the chats were not as per the app on the Mac. I have given two stars, instead of one, because they did make contact over the Christmas holidays. Regretfully I have to post a poor review because of their after sales service and refusal to help solve my problem. My advice : just try it and you won't be able to do without it. There’s no limit ! If you ever tried to experience iTunes for the same purpose, then you will see the difference ! Syncios is definitely the smartest way to transfer data from laptop to iPhone and forget about the complexity and heaviness of iTunes. You can even backup and restore all data from your iPhone, or restore it to another iPhone. You can also remove any piece of music or all music from your smartphone, with only one click ! Same with photos, notes, etc. ![]() You just need to connect it to your laptop, select the folder(s) where music is stored and click "Transfer", then it is quickly uploaded to the smartphone. On November 24, 1859, he published a detailed explanation of his theory in his best-known work, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection. In 1858, after years of scientific investigation, Darwin publicly introduced his revolutionary theory of evolution in a letter read at a meeting of the Linnean Society. In either case, they believed species remained much the same throughout time. Through his observations and studies of birds, plants and fossils, Darwin noticed similarities among species all over the globe, along with variations based on specific locations, leading him to believe that the species we know today had gradually evolved from common ancestors.ĭarwin’s theory of evolution and the process of natural selection later became known simply as “Darwinism.”Īt the time, other naturalists believed that all species either came into being at the start of the world or were created over the course of natural history. ![]() ![]() Theory of Evolutionĭarwin’s theory of evolution declared that species survived through a process called "natural selection," where those that successfully adapted or evolved to meet the changing requirements of their natural habitat thrived and reproduced, while those species that failed to evolve and reproduce died off. He began to develop a revolutionary theory about the origin of living beings that ran contrary to the popular view of other naturalists at the time. The trip had a monumental effect on Darwin’s view of natural history. Upon his return to England in 1836, Darwin began to write up his findings in the Journal of Researches, published as part of Captain FitzRoy's larger narrative and later edited into the Zoology of the Voyage of the Beagle. The Pacific Islands and Galapagos Archipelago were of particular interest to Darwin, as was South America. Through hands-on research and experimentation, he had the unique opportunity to closely observe principles of botany, geology and zoology. Over the course of the trip, Darwin collected a variety of natural specimens, including birds, plants and fossils.ĭOWNLOAD BIOGRAPHY'S CHARLES DARWIN FACT CARD On December 27, 1831, the HMS Beagle launched its voyage around the world with Darwin aboard. After Darwin graduated Christ's College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1831, Henslow recommended him for a naturalist’s position aboard the HMS Beagle. While Darwin was at Christ's College, botany professor John Stevens Henslow became his mentor.
